HTMA

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is a functional assessment tool I use to evaluate mineral balance, stress patterns, and metabolic trends in the body over time. Rather than looking at a single moment, HTMA provides insight into longer-term patterns that influence how your body adapts, copes, and functions.

HTMA is non-invasive and uses a small hair sample to help guide personalized nutrition and lifestyle support.

What Is HTMA?

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis measures the levels and ratios of minerals and certain metals stored in the hair. Because hair grows gradually, it reflects mineral patterns over the previous several months rather than just a snapshot in time.

This makes HTMA especially helpful for understanding:

  • Mineral balance and imbalance

  • Stress and adrenal patterns

  • Blood sugar regulation tendencies

  • Metabolic and thyroid trends

  • Detox and elimination capacity

HTMA does not diagnose disease, but it provides valuable insight into how the body is functioning beneath the surface.

Why Minerals Matter

Minerals are foundational to nearly every process in the body. They are required for:

  • Enzyme function

  • Hormone signaling

  • Nervous system communication

  • Energy production

  • Blood sugar balance

  • Stress adaptation

When minerals are imbalanced, symptoms can appear even when labs look “normal.” HTMA helps reveal these underlying patterns so support can be more precise and effective.

What HTMA Can Reveal

HTMA is not about isolated numbers — it’s about patterns and ratios.

Through HTMA, we can gain insight into:

  • How your body responds to stress

  • Whether your metabolism tends to run fast or slow

  • Blood sugar regulation patterns

  • Adrenal and thyroid trends

  • Mineral deficiencies or excesses

  • Heavy metal exposure patterns

These patterns help explain why symptoms may be happening and where to begin support.

Why Hair (Not Blood)?

Blood tests show what is circulating in the body right now. The body tightly regulates blood levels, often pulling minerals from tissues to keep blood values stable.

Hair reflects what has been stored and excreted over time, providing a broader view of mineral status and stress patterns.

HTMA and blood work serve different purposes and can complement one another.

How I Use HTMA in My Practice

I use HTMA as one piece of a bigger picture that includes:

  • Symptom assessment

  • Nutrition and lifestyle review

  • Muscle testing and/or lingual neural testing (when appropriate)

  • Education and foundational support

HTMA helps guide:

  • Nutritional priorities

  • Mineral rebalancing strategies

  • Stress and adrenal support

  • Detox and drainage considerations

It allows us to move beyond guesswork and create a plan that is structured, intentional, and individualized.

What the Process Looks Like

  1. You collect a small hair sample at home (instructions provided)

  2. The sample is sent to a specialized laboratory

  3. We review your results together in detail

  4. I explain patterns in clear, understandable terms

  5. You receive personalized nutrition and lifestyle recommendations

You don’t need to interpret the results on your own — that’s where my guidance comes in.

Common Questions

Is HTMA safe?
Yes. It is non-invasive and requires only a small hair sample.

Does HTMA diagnose conditions?
No. HTMA is an educational and functional assessment tool, not a diagnostic test.

Can HTMA replace blood work?
No. HTMA complements other testing but does not replace medical labs.

What if my minerals are high or low?
High or low levels do not automatically mean overconsumption or deficiency. They often reflect how the body is adapting to stress and metabolic demands.

Important Note
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis is an educational tool used to assess mineral patterns and guide nutritional support. It is not diagnostic and does not replace medical evaluation or treatment.

Is HTMA Right for You?

HTMA can be especially helpful if you:

  • Feel stuck despite eating well

  • Struggle with energy, stress, or blood sugar balance

  • Want a deeper, root-cause-oriented approach

  • Prefer a structured, data-informed plan
